The latest version of BMW X1 keeps many of the features from last year that made it such a popular luxury compact SUV. An 8-speed automatic transmission comes standard, as does rear-wheel drive. Drivers who want an all-wheel drive vehicle will need to pay extra for the option. The base model sports a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine that delivers 240 horsepower, and the upscale model, the xDrive 35i, can be ordered with a 3.0-liter, 300 horsepower engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive.
The 2015 BMW X1 base model delivers great fuel economy as well, getting 24 miles to the gallon in the city and 34 on the open road. The six-cylinder option does not fare as well at the pump, getting only 18 miles per gallon in the city, but gets a respectable 27 miles per gallon on the highway.
Amenities for the base model include an automatic climate control system, a steering wheel that tilts and telescopes, and faux leather upholstery seating five people. An eight-speaker audio system with HD radio keeps the passengers entertained, while Bluetooth technology and a USB port keeps them connected. For a little extra, owners can choose genuine leather upholstery, a sunroof with a panoramic view, an eleven-speaker audio system, a display screen, and BMW’s signature iDrive information and entertainment system. Comfort options include heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Optional safety features can include parking sensors for the front and rear of the car, navigation, and a rear view camera. For people who want a vehicle that can take them around town in all kinds of weather, this car seems to do the job. This luxury compact SUV excellent handling skills that deliver high performance in a variety of conditions. The starting price for the base model begins just under $32,000.
