For car owners who want to make a difference in the environment and reap real savings at the pump, the lineup of hybrid cars available during 2015 should cause them to break out in a happy dance. Chevrolet, long known in the United States as a manufacturer of gas-guzzlers, has seen the light. Two of its hybrids show great promise to capture the green market over the coming months.
Chevy’s 2015 Spark EV, for instance, gets an amazing 128 miles per gallon in the city. Featuring anti-lock brakes on all four wheels, an electronic stability system, and tons of airbags, the car looks like a winner in the safety category as well. The company’s 2015 Volt, though not as fuel-efficient as its cousin, gets a respectable 101 miles per gallon in the city with similar safety features. Ford, another American manufacturer renowned for its gas-guzzlers and muscle cars in days gone by, has also produced a fabulous entry in the hybrid car sweepstakes. Its electric hybrid version of the Focus gets a whopping 110 miles to the gallon in the city. With an automatic climate control system, anti-lock brakes, and a full set of airbags, traveling in the Focus hybrid promises to be a safe and comfortable experience. Toyota, a pioneer in the hybrid field, offers three excellent choices for those wanting a hybrid auto. Its flagship hybrid, the Prius, offers an automatic climate control system, traction control, and cruise control in addition to anti-lock brakes and an electronic stability system. It does, however, only get 51 miles to the gallon in city driving. The Japanese carmaker’s plug-in 2015 Prius gets the same gas mileage, but includes a navigation system to the lineup of features. Toyota also offers a crossover SUV, the RAV4, in a fuel-friendly hybrid model. Featuring an EV base, this environmentally friendly SUV puts out 154 horses and features a navigation system along with the safety features available in the manufacturer’s other hybrid choices.
Nissan also weighs in at the hybrid market with its 2015 Leaf. However, its engine puts out only 107 horses; its superb fuel mileage 126 mpg in the city puts it near the top of its class. It, too, has a full set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control and electronic stability control features that make it a great all-around selection for a family car.
Fiat rounds out 2015’s lineup of superb hybrid cars with its 2015 500e. It gets a more-than-respectable 122 mpg in the city, while providing a full set of safety features including airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. Consumers whose New Year’s resolutions include going green at the pump during 2015 will applaud the wide-ranging selection from which they can choose. For the environment itself, 2015 may well prove to be a year of great promise.
